Description: Walt Disney Attractions Japan is a wholly owned subsidiary of Disney Parks, Experiences and Products, one of four sectors of the American entertainment conglomerate The Walt Disney Company.
Founded in 1982, a year before the opening of the Tokyo Disneyland theme park in Chiba, Japan, its purpose was to liaise with The Oriental Land Company - the financial owners of Tokyo Disneyland - in all aspects of running and maintaining the theme park.

*** PLEASE NOTE - The date the company was founded is up for debate as Bloomberg.com lists it as 1988. It may be that initially that the company that liaised with the Oriental Land Company (The owner/operator's of Tokyo Disneyland) was WED Enterprises, the forerunner to Walt Disney Imagineering which started in 1986. At this time, Walt Disney Attractions Japan, Ltd. may have been split off from that company to differentiate between the US based WDI and the company that liaised directly with Tokyo Disneyland. It could also be that Walt Disney Attractions Japan, Ltd. is simply Disney's corporate entity in Japan that liaises with the Oriental Land Company specifically to insure that the park and its intellectual property use are in line with the franchisor, the Walt Disney Company that owns the domestic theme parks as well as Disneyland Paris and has interests in the parks in China. Of course this is all speculation. I would put more weight on the latter of the 2 possibilities as WDI still works directly with Tokyo Disneyland and I believe Walt Disney Attractions is a totally separate entity.
