    Description

Up for auction is this vintage  wind up  Fire Alarm.    Called "The Gardsman", this wonderful fire alarm bell was  made by Consumer Engineering Co,, Montreal Canada. The Canadian patent was granted  June 25, 1935 to Joseph Grison, the inventor, who worked for Consumer Engineering.  These were designed to be used in rural areas where electricity was not available. The very loud aluminium bell  measures about 7" in diameter, with the entire unit measuring about 3" thick.  It operates by a wind up spring. On the front of the bell is  heat sensitive metal strip, which  bends, pulling out a small pin, which  releases the gong  striker.  When it has finished ringing,  a small red flag drops to alert the use to re-wind the unit.  It is is great operating condition.  A early fire alarm devise for your collection====See All Piictures, Email Questions=====
