    Description

Dresden Hand Painted Courting Couple Floral Cobalt & Gold Figural Bird Cup
Beautiful footed tea cup with figural bird handle and saucer. The cup is decorated with a hand painted Colonial / Georgian courting couple in a garden framed in gold gilt floral scrollwork. The outside of the cup has and the saucer have an overall deep cobalt blue background. With a gold gilt floral and scrollwork overlay design. Matching gold gilding along the inside edge of the cup. With gold bands around the base of the cup and gold gilt highlights to the bird handle. The saucer has a gold gilt scrollwork medallion in the center over white. And hand painted pink, purple, yellow, blue, and orange flowers framed in matching gold gilt scrollwork. The cup has a gold gilt circle mark obscuring the original manufacturer's mark, which is a 1891 to 1906 Rosenthal mark. It also has an H in a triangle above Dresden mark, which is an overglaze decorator's mark used by Heufel in Dresden between 1900 and 1940. The saucer has a 1860 to 1924 Meissen underglaze blue mark, but was obviously decorated with the cup as an original matching set. Probably circa 1910.
Has some minor wear to the gilding, but otherwise good condition with no chips or cracks.
The cup measures approximately 3 7/8 inches wide including the handle 3 1/2 inches tall.
The saucer measures approximately 5 1/4 inches wide.
This is an antique and may have small in manufacture defects that do not effect the display of the piece.
