Description

Rare doesn’t even begin to describe this one of a kind item. This is for an original ninth grade yearbook featuring future legendary guitarist Jimi Hendrix. There’s no mistaking the youthful 15 year old in his graduation picture but there would be no way of knowing what the awkward teen would become and accomplish in the next 11 years of his short life. This book belonged to a young lady named Sharon who would end up having close to half of the graduating class sign her book. The incredible part is that a young James Hendrix would sign the book with the words “Sharon, It was real swell knowing you. Thanks for helping me on my homework. James Hendrix “59””. Although his signature would become flowery and flamboyant when he became the worlds highest paid entertainer, at this point of his life he was just a shy struggling teen trying to navigate the waters of becoming a young man while needing help with his homework. There aren’t any exemplars of Jimi Hendrix autographs at this young age but it was definitely signed by the young guitarist as an ink test would attest to. The original owner of the book has had her picture cut out of the yearbook along with another small cutout which I showed in another picture. This has got to be the earliest known Jimi Hendrix signature and something worthy of the Rock and Roll Hall of Fame. Rare and definitely 1 of a kind.

DISCLAIMER: It would be nearly impossible for me with my limited connections and funds to find the correct people to authenticate the book. No authenticator actually wants this to be real since it would blow all other Hendrix signatures out of the water in value. I don’t think anyone has the ability to backtrack and authenticate a signature when they have nothing to compare it to. I purchased the book as a Jimi Hendrix yearbook and there was no mention of the book being signed by Hendrix. If someone had done some research, they would have advertised the book as a Hendrix signed yearbook to get more money for the original owner and themselves. If you have the connections and funds to get this authenticated, the windfall of profit is all yours. This would sell for six figures plus to the right person. From this point forward all I can do is to advertise the book as an actual Jimi Hendrix Ninth Grade Yearbook with a signature inside of it of James Hendrix. If you have the ability and funds to test the ink to prove it was signed in 1959, the potential of the book is limitless.
